Replacement DVD/CD-RW Not working

1701 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Mephisto123
Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me out please.

I am trying to replace a faulty DVD/CD-RW drive in a Toshiba Satellite A-10. The original drive is a SD-R2412. I am trying to replace it with a TS-L462 by Toshiba/Samsung.

The drive fits fine and light flashes when I switch the notebook on but I get the following error : IDE #1 ERROR and then Windows continues to load fine.

Drive does not work in windows or eject.

Is it possible to get this drive working in this notebook?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is this drive new or used? You may have received a bad drive.
Drive is new.

It will eject during boot process but not after Windows begins to load.
Maybe your optical drive is not the problem but the IDE card??

I would look on Toshiba's support site to see what drives are supported. Maybe the new drive is not supported?

Do you have cd burning software installed? Try uninstalling it and see if the drive works.
Have removed CD burning software, still no luck.

From what I've read I need to get this drive into slave or master instead of cable select which is incompatible with Toshiba laptops so I'm not trying to track down the firmware to do this.
