Replaced CDROM drivers won't install

1294 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  ebackhus
I replaced a bad cddrom in my laptop.

The drivers that came with my TOSHIBA XM-7002B 24X are DOS

How do i install onto XP Pro OS?

The readme states to edit config.sys and autoexec.bat but the OS will not let me create these files. Says the name is currently being used. The only files with the names are in the system32 folder -- config.nt and autoexec.tmp

Any clues on what to do? :4-dontkno

then i guess my problem is the Laptop bios

The laptop from bootup does not read the CDROM drive as a bootable drive.

The CD runs and reads fine when the OS is running.
Does the BIOS see it at all? It should considering that your OS can read from it and use it.
