Repair HDD on Mirror RAID

Hi, when XP crashes (happened 5 times now), BIOS says that 1 of the HDD in a mirror RAID array(PATA) is faulty, so i have to wait for about 2 hours for the image form 1 HDD to be copied to the other, then XP runs CHKDSK, CHKDSK starts deleting a lot of indexes, what can i do to solve this problem, I also have a Stipe array(SATA) setup and I dont have a problem with that... yet
