The function keys displayed prior to the OS loading are a part of the post process and the BIOS. Some BIOS will allow you to disable that info.
Do you get the message Press F1 to continue or Press F2 to Enter Setup? If so, press F2 to Enter Setup (Bios) then press the key to set the Bios to Defaults (usually F5. Then Save and Exit (usually F10)
thank you for the info, i have checked the bios thru and thru and i can not find the option of disabling the press F1 message, i also set the bios to default, nothing changed
What does the message say? If it says Press F1 to Continue, then there is a hardware problem. Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager do you see any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need to have drivers installed. If you have a name brand computer (HP, Dell, Gateway etc), then you can go to the manufacturers support/download drivers web site type in your make and model # and download drivers for your specific computer.
If the "Press F1 to continue" error is coming up before Windows then it could be one of two things right off hand. The first of course being that the HDD is bad. The second could be an issue with the main board. That can break down into a number of things. You could be having issues with power, or you could have a bad controller for the HDD. Have you tried plugging the HDD into another controller to see if that fixes the problem?
