I am trying to reinstall Win98 because I am having trouble
with links shutting my computer down. Now, while installing I'm getting an error message: "Setup has detected a corrupt Setup (.CAB) file" Does anyone have a suggestion for me...what do I do now, if my original CD is corrupted? Thanks!

Hello Heather and welcome to Tech Support Forums

Have you fdisked and formatted the drive this is going on?

Also try cleaning the CD to make sure there is nothing on it.

Some video game stores have a machine that polishes these like new, But I would use that as a last resort.

cd cleaner/polisher

its just a cd buffer with a wheel, if ur gonna go out and buy a game doctor/disc doctor/dvd doctor (all the same) u'd b better off either using a buffer @ LOW speed, so u dont grind away 2 much info, but theres a thin layer, just b4 where the cd gets read, all the disc doctor does is scratch away that THIN, thin layer, so take a flat knife (pocket knife, etc) with a STRAIGHT EDGED BLADE and scrape WITH the blade, not into the dc, but use the blade backward, so it barely scrapes away, or if unsure, just go buy it, if ur scared, its worth the $20!

What I was trying to say was bring the CD to a store that sells video games or call them on the phone and ask them if they restore CD's.
They only charge like $3.00

in most cases the original cd is just scratched too badly- sometimes I have found that setting the cdrom to read slower will allow it time to read - as well copying it over by exploring will sometimes give you the desired result -- Dos as well but you may have to take some notes to keep the file names straight - wiz
