You shouldn't need the product key again--Modern Warfare 2 is tied to your Steam account, so that you can just redownload it from Steam whenever you need to.

Baejung is right, once a game is tied to your steam, you can just install it via Steam if your hard drive gets wipe etc

If you got banned or something like that, you will have to get a whole new steam account and game because installation doesn't stop the ban.
