In the Device Manager. Make sure the Network Adapter is working correctly and does not have a yellow mark (needs driver). Start by plugging in wired, go to Start/Run and type CMD in the command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns hit Enter. Now type ipconfig /release and hit Enter. Now type ipconfig /renew and hit enter. You should be able to connect wired. Now search for wireless connections and click on yours if you are trying to connect wirelessly.

ive checked my device manager a hundred times (every post i read that fixed it) but network adapter is fine i typed all those commands in order and tried connecting again and it didnt work. Im just so discouraged right now and dont know what else i can do. I used the connection wizard and have tried every other option in their and didnt work. In my internet options it wont recognize it but in my control panel and network connections it shows it with a little padlock and says it is connected. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Go to Control Panel /Network Connections/Right click your connection /Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol(TCP/IP Highlight and choose Properties. Are you set to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically"? or is it set to "Use the following IP Address"? If So, change it to Automatic. When you go to the command prompt, type ipconfig. do you get an IP address (not a 169.x.x.x) address? If it is the later then your DHCP server through your router is not working. Reboot the router.

Uninstall (roll back) and new software programs, updates etc you got at Windows UPdate or just do a System Restore. Last resort Search for an updated driver for the network adapter or just uninstall and reinstall.

Try and check the follwing :
See if you're able to connect to your wireless router at all
Go to Start>All programs>Run>CMD>IPconfig
If you see a non-169.x.x.x address then try and ping the default gateway. If yes then there's an issue with your ISP. If not, then you computer can't connect to the router and thats why you can't access the internet.

Connect to your router via a cable and access the config section of your router and re-install it.
