Registry error?

Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

When I go into my control panel to toggle what I want to appear all the time in my system tray I've noticed a few uninstalled/temp files are in there and curious if there's a way to remove them.

Here's a pic for reference:

While I do have Java installed still, Error Fix, and all those temp Yahoo Installers should be gone shouldn't they? When I try to tinker with them all my PC says is they're currently inactive.

And while it is cut off, you can see Windows Update in there, it's stuck at 97% even though there is nothing to update.

Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

As for the uninstalled programs, they're probably uninstalled with the uninstaller that came with the program, am i wrong? And that uninstaller most likely didn't delete it's registry entries. Thats probably why they show up there.
A good program that uninstalls programs, and deletes it's leftover files and registry entries with it is Revo Uninstaller. I always use this program when uninstalling programs, so i get rid of the registry entries too, because a packed registry can slow the computer down.

I dun know if it's possible, but if you download and install Revo Uninstaller and try to uninstall those leftover programs, i think you might be able to get rid of them completely.
The process will go:
The uninstall will fail (Since they're already uninstalled)
Scanned for leftover files and registry entries
Then you see a list of them all, which belonged to that program, check them all and delete them.

Then the program should disappear completely, from the notification window you took a screenshot of too. Do that with every program you've uninstalled, but somehow still is there.
Good Luck! ;)

If it doesn't work, let me know ;)

Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

Used it on Yahoo and it did remove registry/temp files, but didn't improve my notification icon list.
Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

Hmm, that's odd .. The notification's list should be made up of the programs' registry entries .. Just like the Add/Remove programs list is ..
In which case, you got me beat. Sorry, but im out of ideas. Wait for someone smarter please :)
Good Luck ;)

Corrupted registry maybe?
Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

Found this article, think it would work?

Clear Past Notification Icons In Windows 7
Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

Hi, it will to an extent it misses some essential steps (copied from another site no doubt)

Follow this and all will be well:-

Open the attached .zip file and run it, from the returned .reg file right click on it and select "merge".

Then:- Go to Start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select “run as administrator”

At the prompt type:- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f press enter
(Your desktop will go blank)

Then:- On the keyboard press ctrl+Alt+Del together and "Start Task Manager" Go to the applications Tab and select "New Task" in the box type
explorer.exe press enter your desktop will repopulate.

Restart your computer.

Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

I tried the steps from my URL and everything seems fine now, what steps did my URL miss?
Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

Hi, yes usually does however the the "t" will terminate all processes and any child processes the "f" forces this, sometimes there are still processes left from poor uninstalls my way is simply more though and is convention. If it worked you are good to go, so no problems.
Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

Well I did your fix as well just to be on the safe side. Thanks a lot, and hopefully that's the end of this.
Re: Uninstalled programs showing up in my notification settings

Sorry for the bumps but should things like Windows Update still be showing up on that list if it's not active?
I've been having a few issues with my PC ever since I reinstalled Windows 7 on it and I seem to be having some issues with it.

Currently my first issue was with AIM/Yahoo where my friend's display pictures won't come in, I somehow managed to fix it (Logging in/out of my old PC fixed AIM, not sure how I did for Yahoo) and it seems fine now. Although Yahoo seems to have 2 processes according to my notifications (Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Messenger Tray, not sure if they're supposed to both be there).

The second is with my notifications showing inactive/uninstalled programs, I did all the steps that I was told here (For reference: http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...ng-up-in-my-notification-settings-556134.html) however it seemed to be a temp fix and it's happening again (Things like Windows Update, Java Console, email notifications aren't active but the list shows them, again forgive me if that's supposed to happen)

And the last is icons for shortcuts aren't showing up. Like instead of seeing the YouTube logo as an icon for a shortcut the image is of a globe, here's a pic for reference:

All of these things seem to point to me that something is wrong with my registry, the issue is if it's something I can fix without having to wipe my HDD and reinstalling Windows 7 again.

Thanks in advance.
