i bought a new monitor yesterday but when i tried to get 165 hz on a dp cable the screen of the monitor began to flash and flicker.

What Connection type are you using? HDMI? Display Port?
What is the Make and Model# of your Video Card? What is the Max resolution the Video Card Supports?
You will only get 165 hz from a Display Port cable and video card port that supports that.
