I have a sony vaio with windows xp. i want to do a system recovery but I have a lot of data on external hard drives that i dont want to lose. I wanted to know if i do the recovery will i still be able to install the hard drives afterward & keep the data on them. I also have a slave internal drive. will it restore that drive too?

It will only restore the operating system to its original Factory settings. As per when it was bought from the shop.
