Hi
I'm thinking of upgrading my machine to be able to run Far Cry 2 on the highest settings, while I know my machine is outdated, I don't know what areas to upgrade in. My machine's specs are listed below:

AMD Anthlon 64X2 Processor 5200+ 2.71Ghz
2GB RAM
Radeon X1600 Graphics card
Windows XP SP3

I don't have any set price point so feel free to recommend any processors or graphics cards which you think would be worth looking into.

Hello,

First of all the CPU that you have fits the recomended speed for running the game. Which means that it is above the minimum needs.

Secondly you have the recomended RAM amount for the game which is 2GB. The minimum they recomend is 1GB. Although upgrading to 3GB which is the maximum that 32 bit windows xp will allow would not do any harm and with the price of RAM these days it wouldn't be that expensive either.

Now as for your graphics card if you have a PCI-E I would recomened a 9600GT as I have used the 9500GT and it has been enough to run many things. If you have an older AGP slot then the 512mb X1950 Pro would probably be enough to run this game.

Yeah, graphics card is the main thing you want to upgrade. I'd recommend a Radeon 4670 over the 9600GT (same performance, 4670 is cheaper). As for AGP, the X1950s can be hard to find and they need a good power supply (500W+), an X1650 might be easier to manage.

well you really don't need a new computer

try upgrading to win 7 64bit, toss 2 more gigs of ram in and grab a new graphics card - you'll be running most things (yes even far cry 2) at or near max settings

A graphics card upgrade would be the best upgrade for gaming.
The OS doesn't really matter and 2GB of RAM is plenty for XP.
