hi everyone, currently i'm getting answers for a problem i have here:-

http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...rent-setup-advice-urgently-needed-626558.html

But the reason i've started this thread is because i'm looking for a cheap NAS enclosure that has as low as possible power consumption.

I need one that can take two 1tb sata drives. Its going to be used for storage of movies, music and general files.

Thanks

LOL Small world!

Whatever NAS you get, please consider the important of your data. I had been experienced before of lost data in NAS box due to HD failure.

With NAS with 2 bay (2HD), if you slot in 2x 1TB, I suggest you go for Mirror volume (Raid1).

If 1 of the HD died (yes it happen, HD has spinning parts like motor!), you data still safe and you can buy another new HD rebuild the volume without lost data.

The draw back is with 2x 1TB with mirror volume, you only have half the storage so only 1TB. But it protect HD failure unless they both go wrong at same time.

Synology, QNAP, Netgear they all make NAS box and you should find good price in Amazon. Just make sure it has DLNA and UPnP supported.

i know you said their all good, but can you recommend a nas:

1. which can download files
2. which doesnt use too much power.

PS. im at work..will chat after 10pm

thanks 2xg. May i ask what is the difference between premium NAS like Synology/Qnap and cheaper D-links? I'm just confused why people pay so much if they all do the same thing.

I'm all for saving money too, it's just the Brand and read all the reviews as well why people are buying the more expensensive ones bec it works for them and they prefer the high end technology. Others have luck just like myself going for inexpensive brands.

If anything goes wrong with the D-Link NAS, I'm sure it will have at least 2yr warranty, which can be replaced.
