Reboots during Windows XP installation

Hi,

I'm clean installing on completely new parts, and the system reboots everytime I try to install Windows XP. The reboot always happens at the same location when the drivers are being loaded (before the user is able to do anything): exactly when the NTFS drivers are being loaded.

The XP CD is good and I've tried multiple hard drives, and multiple sticks of RAM (same type). The parts are Athlon XP 64 3000, Asus K8V SE Deluxe, 1GB Kingston DDR ECC Ram (will not boot with two sticks for some reason even with different seat configs). I understand that this mobo has some issues - but this particular issue doesn't seem to be a problem.

The system is running cool (40 C when max is 70 C). I've also tried different BIOS settings (PromiseTrack off, SATA off) since my drives are IDE.

Thanks for any help. I appreciate it greatly.

Hi rightoh, I would borrow another stick of memory to try, this board supports non-ECC memory. Look in the manual for the location of the cmos jump and reset the cmos by unplugging the computer from the wall and moving that jumper from pin 1-2 to 2-3 for 10 seconds and then replacing it back to pins 1-2. After resetting the cmos, boot into the bios and in the Exit menu select "Load Setup Defaults" and then check your memory voltage and timing settings against those recommended by the manufacturers and F10 to save and reboot. Thanks for the reply. I reset my CMOS, and the same issue occurs. I actually tried non-ECC RAM first (Corsair Caviar), but that didn't even boot. The motherboard also supports ECC RAM, and Kingston is also on their recommended RAM list.

Would you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Called Kingston and they pointed out something pretty embarrassing: I was trying to use registered RAM in a non-registered Motherboard. I just realized my Corsair RAM was also registered. Thanks for your help. Now I gotta go track down some more sticks of RAM.
