Realtek ALC883 No sound on front headphone socket

Hi, in the good old days if you plugged i headphones to the front green socket the sound output was diverted from the rear green socket to which the speakers were attached without a problem.

My system
Asus P5N-E SLI
ALC883 Realtek Chip
Running Win XP Pro

I have searched the Realtek manager to try to find a solution without success. :upset:

What ever I try the sound always comes from the rear socket to the speakers.
I have downloaded the Realtek manual but not being a boffin it is beyond my understanding with its if, buts and maybes.

Any help to get this perfectly normal function working will be much appreciated.
