A noob question probably, but can you connect a Logitech X-530 5.1 to a Laptop (Notebook) that has a Realtek AC97 Audio sound card? The laptop has only one port out but I've heard that the Realtek AC97 does support 5.1 speakers.
I believe it supports it with a digital output (coaxal or optical)
Some 5.1 speakers have a switch on the back that will allow all speakers to operate from a single stereo plug (Mind you it will not be technically surround, just expanded stereo). Consult your manual, might have a switch, might not, but the X 530's don't have a digital input
