I'm trying to revive an old laptop to give to a Senior Citizen. I have an HP Pavilion dv8000 Laptop that originally came with Windows XP Professional. I upgraded the operating system to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and have not had sound since. The laptop uses AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-44 2.4 GHz. Today I downloaded and installed Realtek Driver 6.0.1.6305 dated 6/19/2009. I purchased this computer in 2005. Now I get the message, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)." I got this driver plus 5 others from SlimDrivers. All worked except this one. I also have the red circle with the white X beside the speaker. Can anyone help?

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, any devices with yellow flags need drivers installed.
You should only download drivers from the computer manufacturers Site. It is not RealTek but Conexant Audio driver Drivers & Software - HP Support Center.
Turn the laptop over and copy the exact model# from the label on the bottom (ie) dv8xxxx, go to the HP Drivers site and type that into their search engine. If you need help, please type your Exact model # in your next post.
