Really odd cd drive issue... well for me

For some reason my cd drive is only reading copied cd's. I've looked through all the settings in windows (am on 2k) and can't see anything that accounts for it.

Now this is even more vexing as I just adressed a pci latency issue that was cracking my sound and stopping me from playing 3d accelerated games without kicking my machine. So now not being able to install the games I want to play is verging on comedy.

Does anyone have any ideas?
