Thanks for the help and the detailed instructions!

I've attached my ongoing log files for today. I encountered the "virus" and spyware problems intermittently over the last week or so.

I was NOT able to use the pandascan. The buttons are there in both IE and Firefox, but upon clicking, nothing happens. So I skipped that step and moved on.

The only windows updates that my system showed as needing was the MS Office SP3. I am not able to install the file.

I subscribed to this thread with "instant email notification".

Thanks again,

felisa.

Bump. I've hoped to get a response or a lead into what direction I should go without formatting. It's been 3 days since my original posts with no replies.

Thanks again in advance.

Hi and welcome to TSF.

Please subscribe to this thread so that you are notified when you receive a reply. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Add Subscription.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Before beginning the proposed fix, read this post completely. Any questions should be kindly asked before proceeding. Ensure that there are no open browsers when carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Disable S& D Spybot's Tea Timer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

--------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Download combofix.exe to your desktop.
  2. Disconnect from the internet....pull the plug!
  3. Disable your real time protection of your Anti-Virus. Exit the program via the SystemTray icon.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. Type "1" and press Enter to begin the scan.
  5. When finished, it shall produce a log for you ( C:\ComboFix.txt ). Post that log in your next reply.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

    --------------------------------------------------------------
  6. Re-enable your Anti-Virus if it is not active...a reboot should have re-activated it.
  7. Re-establish an internet connection.
  8. Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here.

I've attached the text file. That is the whole thing unaltered from: C:\ComboFix\ComboFix.txt. There is no text file at c:\combofix.txt

I reran Combofix.exe and didn't get the "Select 1" and it didn't reboot my machine. That logfile is "c:\combofix.txt"

When it didn't reboot, etc. I manually rebooted, then reran combofix to see if it would do the same thing and it did. "C:\combofix2.txt" attached. I manually rebooted and ran HJT and attached that log as well.

2 things changed:
1. I now have combofix files directly saved to my c: drive.
2. Combofix did not spend nearly as much time doing whatever it does and didn't reboot the machine or ask me to press 1.

Please let me know if anything is out of line here....

Thanks!

Hi felisanator

Everything sounds in order and correct, as the second time around running the tool shouldn't have taken long at all since there were no files to remove. However, the second run produced the complete log, in which I was looking for. There are a few files I would like to take a look at, so please continue on with the instructions provided below:

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/hijackthis-log-help/194598-rbot-matcash-random-pop-ups-5-steps-followed-hjt-log-included.html

Suspect::
C:\n.bat
C:\temp\cilo.exe
C:\install.exe
C:\app.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\7429.bat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mkghj.dll
Save this as CFScript

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

Follow the prompts, and post the resulting log, C:\ComboFix.txt

Warning:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture a file to submit for analysis. Please submit "[4]-Submit_Date_Time.zip" by following the prompts.

Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK. A browser will open. Simply follow the instructions to copy/paste/send the requested file.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
  1. Click on
located at the bottom of the page.
  2. A "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
  3. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" * The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place *
Begin the scan by selecting
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
  • Click on
    then click
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Please reply back with the results from the Panda Scan

Ok -- I followed the instructions and did the online upload.

However, I was not able to get the Panda scan to work. I clicked on the button and it wouldn't enable the script or do anything. It seemed like an inactive button.

I've attached the combofix file for your review.

thanks!

Welp, I got the blue screen of death just after posting the last response. And when I rebooted, there was no hard drive detected!!

So I rebooted 4 times and had the same response from the BIOS not locating the hard drive.

I got in the car to take the machine to a data recovery service. As soon as I got there, the machine booted up as if nothing had gone wrong!!

I drove back home and rebooted the machine only to find another spyware picked up, "Bifrost". I quarantined it using my CA Internet Security Suite and here I am posting this update.

Enjoy! I'll be spending the rest of the day backing up to DVD's.

Please delete ComboFix.exe off your computer, and download a new copy by following the instructions below:

Download combofix from here

**Save it directly to your desktop**

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        [*]Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

--------------------------------------------------------------

Please reply back with the following logs:
