Hi everyone,
After struggling for weeks myself, and asking my tech buddies (I work at a PC repair shop), I'm at a loss for what's going on here. I have a Creative SB Live! 5.1 sound card and for the longest time, have had no troubles with it. Lately though, while playing games (primarily Battlefield 2, but occasionally the problem crops up in other games such as Day of Defeat Source) my sound will occasionally begin to fade away, in subtle small amounts. Aggrivated, but not deterred, I'll turn the knob on the subwoofer a bit to compensate. However, over time, the fade has become so significant that I cannot turn the dial anymore, and I can barely, if at all, hear the sound on a cranked set of speakers. I'll suffer with this for some time, and then, out of the blue, the sound will come back, in a literal wave, creeping from low to a quick blast at full volume, nearly knocking me out of my seat as I scramble to turn the sound back to normal levels. I'm at a loss on why this is occuring. I tried a used sound blaster live we had at work and though I didnt have the wave problem noted above, voices in BF2 were stuttery and obnoxious, so I'm back at square one. I'm curious as to if its a driver issue (even though creative says they're up to date), or maybe the sound card needs to be replaced... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
On a side note, I BELIEVE that the SB Live! 5.1 has EAX support, but in BF2 I cannot select it, and I have current drivers. Maybe thats a Q for a BF2 forum, but I thought I might just throw that in there, because in the world of sound cards, I'm a terrible novice.
Thanks again,
Kenny007
