Random slowdown.

Hullo!

A couple of days ago my computer suddenly started suffering from really bad slowdown. Opening 3-4 programs (which my 2.6GHz, 512MB RAM computer usually handles easily) will now probably crash my system. Playing music is next to impossible, because the song will stutter so badly it makes the song unlistenable. Playing videos slows everything right down, and I have to wait about fifteen seconds for it to play. All of this just happened right out of the blue. I've got no virus, spyware, etc... (done multiple scans, with multiple programs, just to be extra sure) and have updated all my drivers. Any advice on how to cure this?

I would say that you have some kind of spyware running around,
But if you say that you've check this issue, maybe you have a memory
hardware problem, that makes you think that you have 512MB, but running
only on 256 MB...

256MB isn't bad :p.

Sounds like malware. Mind telling us more specifically what you've scanned with?

A hijackthis log would really help.
Hi - welcome to TSF

Try the advice here* and if that doesn't get you out of this problem try downloading and running HJT and posting on the HJT Help board.

Yeah, sorry. I've got, er.. Spyware Blaster installed. Scanned with Spybot and AdAware. Also used the Trend Micro virus/spyware online scan.

I'll do the hijack this thing now.
