I need some help diagnosing this.

I have a Powerspec running Windows XP. Within the last week it started to randomly crash. When it does this, a clicking noise starts coming from the CPU and continues for less than a minute until it unsticks and reboots. Even if I power the system off, when I restart a minute later the problem continues until it unsticks. Then I have no problems until it crashes again, a week or an hour later. The last time it crashed it was due to me inserting a USB jump drive.

I'm just not sure if this is a CPU issue or a hardrive issue. Either way I'm purchasing a backup HD immediately (which I should already have but don't) I just don't know if I should buy a new hardrive or a new computer...

Any advice would be appreciated!!

My fan seems to be working fine. And I can't find any alerts. I do know the hard drive model so I'll download the utility, but I will need to wait to run it until I get my backup hard drive.

In the meantime, is it wise to run chkdsk?
