Hi a couple weeks ago i upgraded to win 7 and formatted my hard drive. I formatted my drive and checked my drive for errors several times and everything seemed alright. But roughly every 2-3 hours it will sort of lag for a second then reboot. It doesn't matter if it's not even under stress or being used it will still reset. So you can see how this would become annoying pretty quickly. My specs are
CPU: E6750 2.6ghz dual core
Mobo: GA- p35 - DSE
RAM: 2GB KINGSTON DDR2
GPU: ATI HD RADEON 3870

Im clueless about what could be causing it. Iv run disc checks and defragged ect...still not fixed. If anyone could gimme a hand i would greatly appreciate it,
PEACE

PS all the fans and temperatures are normal.

Go start > type event viewer in search boX and enter > go to administrative events
Any errors occur at the time of reboot ?
Ok so i did what you said and the most common errors i could find were "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block." and "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1." Does this mean my hard drive is corrupt?

Hello and Welcome to TSF!!!

Go into BIOS and check voltages and post them here...

What make/model PSU you have???
Did you check HDD with diagnostic tools???

Keep us posted...
Thx for the welcome.

Ok so my CPU voltage is set to 1.35v and temp is around 30c, im pretty sure thats normal. My CPU is not currently oc'd either.

As for PSU im not sure but i think it's or well im pretty sure it 500w.

thx.

Oh and i used the diagnostic tools and everything. I also DIDN'T select the quick format when i was formatting

Oh and one last thing i would really like to save formatting as a very last resort because I have 100's ofgigs worth of files and stuff and backing them up with a computer that resets every 3 hours would be a nightmare.

For the first error i found this solution : (not mine)
Open Windows Explorer and right click on the drive.Select Properties and and click on the Tools tab. Click on Check Now for the Error Checking option. System will need to reboot and will find and fix the error. The drive should then work just fine. If you leave it the system may run well but will crash if it attempts to use that bad block. Fixing it will either repair the block or mark it as unavailable in the BAM.
And for the next i googled and found this on smartcomputing :
To fix this issue Microsoft recommends changing the transfer mode for the controller. To do this right-click My Computer and click Manage. Next double-click System Tools in the right pane and double-click Device Manager. In the right pane, double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller and then double-click the correct controller. Find the Transfer Mode box on the Advanced Settings tab and click PIO Only. Finally click OK, close the Computer Management window, and reboot your computer.

One last question I have an old 80gig hdd. If i installed and ran windows of that and just used my current hdd for my files would that solve the problems, assuming that the other hdd isnt corrupt?
