Hi, I need help and i know i should search and i have tried searching but Im too confused to even know what Im searching for..

Basically a few months ago I assembled a new computer, all new hardware (i dont quite remember now what the specs are and i cant look them up coz i cant get into my computer long enough to look them up). But my computer worked really well without any problems for a couple of months then all of a sudden it would just freeze randomly. I can not see any logic or regularity in the way it would freeze, sometimes it would happen before I even get a chance to log into windows and sometimes i can use it for (the most) an hour before it would freeze. The screen just freezes, the mouse would stop moving, the keyboard would not respond, if there was any music playing it would just freeze. I dont get the BSOD, the computer doesnt crash, doesnt make any strange noises and if you couldnt see the screen was frozen, you would think its running as normal.

I have no idea if its a software or hardware problem, I have formatted the C drive several times already in case it was a virus. If its a hardware problem i have no idea how to identify what's causing the problem.

Can anyone help me by telling me how I can find out what's causing the problem? and what steps i can take?

Thanks

OK Ive managed to Log on in safemode and have been logged on for a couple of hours now and so far no problems.. so I would think this is more a driver issue and not a hardware problem but then again I dont really know what Im talking about..

Im attaching the SysInternals AutoRuns and BSOD File Collection logs to see if anyone can see anything from them.. I dont know if running windows in safemode would affect the outcome of the test.

I couldnt run System Health Report because it kept on giving me an error " An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified."

My Specs are

· OS - Windows 7 ?
· x64
· Original System Windows XP
· full retail version
· Custom built a few months ago
· Last OS installation 27/10/2011 (the computer has been in storage for last couple of month as we were moving)

· CPU - Intel Core i7 3.40GHz
· Video Card - Geforce GTX 550
· MotherBoard - Asus P8Z68-V LE
· Power Supply - Antec Neo 400C

· System Manufacturer - Custom Build

If you are experiencing it again and again despite formats of your hard drive, then I would most likely venture to guess we're dealing with hardware issues and not drivers. The type of freezes you are experiencing are also typically conducive of hardware problems and not drivers. Still, if you have a suspicion it's a driver, you can try Driver Verifier.

I recommend you perform a battery of tests, as followed:

RAM: Memtest86+ - 7+ passes
CPU: Prime95 - Torture Test; Large FFTs; overnight (9+ hours)
GPU: MemtestG80/CL - Run twice (if any of the tests work on your GPU)
Drives: Seatools - All basic tests aside from the Fix all or the advanced ones.

All of these (excluding MemtestG80/CL) are included in the UBCD if you prefer a Live CD environment (which is a good environment to test hardware on). Note that Prime95 is called Mersenne Prime Test in the UBCD. Also, if you want, provide us temps/voltages using HWInfo with Sensors only option checked. Log two 30-minute instances: one for idle, and one for high load.

I want to mention that your PSU is at the bare minimum recommended spec for your hardware setup, if not insufficient. Plus the brand Antec has lately gone shoddy in quality over the years and hasn't been recommended by our panel of experts over in the hardware forums. Please consider this article for reference on power supply options. The PSU is by far the most important item in system stability, and putting more money towards it goes a looooong way in saving oneself from the frustrations of dealing with a bad power supply (which we find here at TSF is a very frequent cause of issues).

Thanks Guys... I was convinced that it was a hardware problem since formatting didnt make a difference but since it was working fine in safemode I thought it may be a driver issue.. but will try the above.. I will also look into a new PSU..

Thanks again..
