Random Beeps Help

This is driving me insane. This problem has cropped up in the last two days and I have made no changes to my system at all. I am currently running Windows 7. The alert sound that the computer gives when you are installing a file or when you complete a download keep sounding regardless of what I am doing. The sound would only be a mild annoyance but the sound also comes with a hang up from the computer that lasts perhaps a second or two. During that second or two that the computer beeps to alert me to NOTHING, the mouse stops, the keys lock, and I just have to wait for it to be over to do something.

There are no windows that pop up. There are no boxes or alert messages that accompany the alert sounds. The timing seems to be completely random, it can be 10 times in 5 minutes or 3 times in an hour. I have done two different virus scans and come up with nothing, including Malware Bytes. I have restarted numerous times to no avail. I can be doing nothing at all with no programs open and still get the alert beeps.

I've looked around on the internet and seen a few people with this issue with no real solutions given for it. If anyone has any suggestions at all, I would be most grateful.
