RAM Upgrade Question

714 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Cloud_Strife
My motherboard is a MSI KT4AV-L and uses 184pin RAM Modules. I was wondering if I ever plan to upgrade in the future, if I could upgrade it this way. The manual for the mobo says that it can only support 1 DDR400 Module, and theres three slots. I currently have 2 DDR333 512MB Modules in the pc, (1GB in other words) and I was wondering if I could have both DDR333 and then the one DDR400 in the remaining slot. Thank you.

Ideally, you really want all of your RAM to be exactly the same, but mixing memory speeds shouldn't cause any visible problems for you, however it's still not recommended. Performance could suffer if you started mixing different brand names and ram types. The best thing that you can do is to plug in the modules and see if everything suits your needs.
Aside from incompatiabilities you'll also have them running at the speed of the slowest module. If you pair PC2100 and PC3200 they'll both run at PC2100 speed.
so that would mean the module will work! thanks a bunch guys!

Run Check My Compter.

This should give you some useful info about what you have and what your machine supports.
