RAM query

Hi, my motherboard manual says: "PC2700 maximum to 4 banks only. PC3200 maximum to 2 banks only". What exactly does 'maximum to 4/2 banks only' mean? My M/board is an ASUS A7V8X-X with 3 memory slots.

Cheers

Solution

Hi, I got a reply from somewhere else, so for those who are curious, basically a single sided RAM module has one bank, a double-sided one has 2. I think current 256MB modules are one-sided, 512MB ones are double (Corsair ones certainly are). So my motherboard can take one 512MB PC3200 module or two 256MB. Also 2 512MB PC2700 modules or a 512 and 2 256's. Hope this has helped some fellow ASUS owners!

****, thought the post failed first time. That's embarassing!
Actually, it appears that all the posts mad it. :D
Yeah, I clicked submit and it went to 'Page could not be displayed', so I assumed it hadn't submitted. I then re-typed it only to find the original was there as well . In fact, this is the second time I've typed this (but I checked if the original was there this time)! It's like a tech problem post inside a tech problem post!!
