First a grateful thank to nickster_uk for the answer on my last question. I will surely follow your advise!

But I feel this matter need some extra answers before I can start working on the computer, mainly if there can be a error in the processor or in the os?

You can say that this is the second computer with this problem. When the errors first appeared I tried to analyse the problems by my own, and came up with errors in the ram, and maybe alsi in the hdd, so I changed the motherboard, ram and first hdd. What is left is the processor, floppy drive, second hdd, two dvd-rw drives, and the graphical- and audio cards.

The errors on the first mb resulted in the BSOD with a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message. I could always restart the computer, that then showed no visible complications.

With the new mb the computer suddenly restarts, still with no visible complications. I have installed IE 8.0, and it crashes frequently.

The os is on a Dell OEM CD, XP pro sp2. I suppose that after using Windows Update to download and install sp3 and all updates, the os should be a "normal" xp pro installation.

One thing that might complicate the installation is that I have the first hdd in three partitions, with the os on the first, the page file on the second, and documents and settings on the third (less fragmentation this way, and less risk in loosing important information).

Any advises will be highly appreciated.

One question: Why have you made a Partiton for a swap file? Xp will handle that Ok by itself.
Suggestion: Utilise the spare Hd and install Xp to it on one Partition . Run with that drive alone and see if your prob crops up.

I have found that the C:\ partition don't get so partitioned when XP don't write the page file all over it (but I can be fooling myself).

The second HDD is really not a spare but keeps my archived documents and projects.
