I am trying to upgrade my ASUS P4P800 motherboard set from 2x 512 chips to 2x 1 gb chips. I checked with the ASUS website before buying the new RAM (184-pin Samsung PC3200 DDR) as well as the website that I bought my original rig from (pugetsystems.com) and by all I could see it would be a compatible upgrade. When I installed it, nothing happened. The computer came to life, but there was no image on the monitor. I reinstalled my old RAM and it worked fine. I then tried to install the new and the old and it worked...sort of. I have an image and can run my machine, but the new RAM (which is installed) is not registering. When I check my Control Panel-System tab, it only registers the original 1 gig that comes from my 2x 512s. The same is true when I checked my bios. Is there anything you could suggest?

Hello and welcome to the TSF, you can try clearing the cmos with the 2 X 1Gb modules installed, make sure that the memory is in the same colored memory slots for dual channel operation. There is also the chance that the new memory has different timings and voltage requirements, check the bios to see if the memory is recognized, set the timings to whatever the spec is for the new memory and set the ddr ref voltage to 2.7V or 2.75V, save and reboot. I would not mix the 512 modules with the 1Gb modules
