First, don't know if this is even the right forum for this thread, but since I have XP on my computer, maybe you can help me. Its nothing big, but I am on cable internet using an ethernet connection (I live in apts. and every apt. has hookups, but one apt evidently has the hardware, so if that apt. loses electricity, we all lose internet). anyway, it seems like every day I come home, open my desktop, click on Firefox (and this happens with all browsers) and it starts up, but then says that it can't find my homepage (Google) and if I try to go to other websites, same thing. Like I've lost the connection. I have tried repairing the connection, but it says something like "Renewing IP Address" then sits there forever, and then says it cant do it. The only way I've found to get my connection back is to restart the computer again. Any ideas what may cause this..there's really no problem, i just hate having to restart every day.

It sounds like you are leaving your computer on 24 hours a day- is that correct?
Probably what is happening is that somewhere your connection times out or maybe the DHCP lease expires, due to non-activity. If this is the case then the easiest thing to do is shut down when not in use.
YEAH, I do leave it on 24/7, mainly because I dont like waiting for it to start up, even though it really doesnt take that long.
