okay well lately ive been having this problem with my pc shutting down under heavy cpu load. ie rendering large images in cinema4d / photoshop cs4 or even playing games like call of duty 4.

now i know it could be psu related even though i have bought a bigger psu not so long ago which is the GIGABYTE Odin 470W and i actually heard after i bought it that they werent running at 470W so now im just trying to see if my system is slightly under powered

the specs are

duo core 3.4 [pentium D 950]
2gigs of ram
geforce 8800 gt
running 2x sata drives 1x 160gig and 1x 500
no dvd writer or anything along those lines.

i know faulty ram could be the case so ive tested it with memtest and it runs for a bit but as you know it puts strain on the cpu and hence more power usage and it tends to shut down.

i know its not a temp problem because the cpu/core runs at 37-40 degrees

so im sure it is a PSU problem

any suggestions on what size to go for, i was thinking about maybe 600W +

You are underpowered with a 470W PSU. A 600W Seasonic or Corsair would be a great improvement.
