Hey guys, noob here, sorry, just have a quick question.

I just bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358 this motherboard, should be arriving in the mail within the week.

My question is, see that green IDE connection? Will I be able to hook up my old hard drive to that, so that I may transfer all my files to my new SATA drive?

The reason I ask is because my roommate seems utterly convinced that that connection is strictly for CD/DVD-ROM drives. And will not work with an IDE hard drive. Just looking for some clarity, thanks.

It'll work with an ide hard drive, two devices on the one ide channel. They just have to be jumpered correctly. Not a problem, don't know where your friend got the idea that an ide hard drive wouldn't work, but he is misinformed.

1 x IDE connector supporting ATA-133/100/66/33 and up to 2 IDE devices

(a 72x cd drive tops out at 88gb/s)

need more? here's the info from the manual...
7)IDE (IDE Connector)
The IDE connector supports up to two IDE devices such as hard drives and optical drives.

you can get the manual, latest drivers, faq's from the webpage for the GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.0) other version : rev. 1.6 rev. 1.1 (make sure you have the correct page that matches your mobo's revision #).

everything you need to know, before you even have the mobo.
