So I have an ISO and i want to burn to a dvd disc i have.

i have the software: "FreeISOBurner"

and two blank DVD-R 4.7GB 1-16x speed discs...

Im going to use a laptop to burn this. the laptop is a dell inspiron N5010 so it should have a good enough burner

so the ISO file is still in ISO file type, do i extract and THEN burn or when the burning program prompts me for a file do i select the .iso file?

any other advice please, the ISO is for re-installing windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my computer.

the kind of install i want is to WIPE everything on my laptop then install Windows 7 fomr this ISO i have which should work.

First off, try ImgBurn. It's a pretty good software and I use it a lot.

When burning an ISO, the maximum speed you want to burn at is around x4 just to assure you get all that data on there.

You don't need to extract anything from the ISO, just leave it as it is and then, using the software, select the ISO itself.

HOWEVER: Burning, booting, installing from CDs just takes so damn long even with good drives. If you want, I could help you out with a better method that's faster and usually the end result contains less errors in the entire process. (Installing from a USB)

i have 2 USB drives ones 8gigs and empty the other is 32gigs and half full.

I'm new to this stuff and I've just found imgburn on my pc lol i downloaded it before but forgot.

will img burn work with this USB thing as well?

No problem.

And saving your personal data should be hard at all. Windows comes with a backup so all you need to do is select the files you want to back up to your external HDD, reinstall windows, and the backup program should have an option to put everything back the way it was. It's rather user friendly so I won't go any further into detail unless you ask otherwise.

About that 8 gig USB. They is more than enough space to burn windows to it. But imgburn has yet to add support for USB Booting and such. So, for this task, we will use a software I've been using for the longest time.

Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux

Don't worry, It's safe. Simply download the program and stick it somewhere you will remember where it is (When downloaded, it will by default be in your Downloads Folder)(I suggest putting it on your desktop).

Now, once you have your ISO ready, all your data backed up, simply run the program.

We're gonna format your USB just in case. Make sure there is nothing on this USB as it's going to be permanently erased. Hit Start, Computer and find your USB, right click and hit format. Once you're there hit default and format it.

Now, remember where your USB is (i.e. E: or F: or something like that), open the program you downloaded, select your ISO, then your USB and hit Create.

Tell me when you get that far. I'll help you make sure your computer can boot from a usb.
