Question About Adding RAM

1323 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  TheMatt
Hey guys,
I have a Compaq Presario SR 1500 NX desktop, and I want to add some more memory. I was told that I could I could use a 512 mb DDR PC3200 module for the empty slot. Does anyone know if this is compatible with my system? I've read a few stories on here about peoples computer freezing up after they've added more RAM. So again, is this ok for my system? Thankyou very much to the person who can help.

Hi,

That has an AMD Sempron 3000+ 2.0 GHz (Socket A) and a 333 MHz FSB. It takes 184 pin DDR333 PC2700 RAM. You can add a 512 MB stick, but it isn't guaranteed to work. Your best bet is to add 2 x 256 MB sticks or 2 x 512 MB sticks in a matched pair so that you will have no issues.
Hey Matt,
Thanks alot for your response. So your saying I should buy two sticks instead of one, either 256 or 512. Will I have enough slots to add two more sticks?

Thanks,
Josh
You should add 2 x 256 MB or 2 x 512 MB, and remove the other 256 MB stick you have in there now if you don't have a third slot. If you are getting 2 x 512 MB, then the 256 MB won't really make a difference, but if you are getting 2 x 256 MB, then a third 256 MB stick will help more.
Wow Matt thanks for your help. I would have been lost without it. I was just about to but one stick of the 512, but I'm glad I contacted you first.

Thanks again,
Josh
You're welcome. Post back here if you have any more questions about the upgrade.
