Hello all,

Recently i posted a thread about my main computer being stuck in a boot loop. After alot of research it seemed that the only solution was to reinstall the OS.

the HDD on this computer has alot of very important files. I was wondering if it was possible to put the HDD into my spare computer?

My main computer is an AMD 1.4ghz 512ddr 60gb, running on xp pro
My spare computer is also an AMD 1.4, but 256ram

Im sorry if that was the dumbest thing you've ever heard, but im quite inexperienced at this stuff.

If thats not an option, could anyone suggest other methods for me to get my data back? and thoughts on dual boot if the above isnt possible?

Thanks!

Barring any type of virus, or the drive has gone bad., Yes you can recover
files from that drive by setting it to slave, and attaching drive to a spare slot
on your primary or secondary ide cable. Go into bios and set hdds to auto
detect. I would attach the drive to the primary ide channel, the same
cable that your c: drive is on. You can save files,,mp3s, pics,,but it will
not be able to associate with any type of programs/games you were
running. Good luck

Personally, I recommend disconnecting the optical drives, etc. from the secondary channel and installing the hard disk as the only device there. That way you don't have to worry about jumpering or conflicts with your boot drive.
