My computer runs on XP and has had Office 2000 installed since I bought the machine about 3 years ago. Office has always run properly until recently when got the message "The application has failed to initialize properly (0xc0000017)."
I tried reinstallng without success. Then cleaned up my system (as best I could, not being an expert), defragged, etc and did a repair of XP. Publisher now opens but almost immediately closes down. Have tried a reinstall of Office but this hasn't helped. If I try reporting this to Microsoft, I get a message referring to a file with "appcompat.txt" suffix. Can anyone help please?
