So forgive a noob a question, but given this pair of specifications on the antec earthwatts 380w and 430w supplies:

What is the difference? I've been repeatedly told that total wattage is not important, the amps on the 12v rail are. If this is true, how are these supplies different at all?

The amps are important especially if you are using a newer video card (Normally 26Amps)
The difference between the two you have chosen is the 430W gives you a max load of 360W on the +12V rail as opposed to 324W on the 380W PSU.
