HI, we're having a problem with our PS3 my husband was playing it last night and paused it for a while, when he returned the screen had crashed, he switched off, plug out, waited turned on and it stated that "the hard disks file system is corrupted and will be restored"
He pressed ok, it started it's restore, stuck on 33% for a while and then completed to 100% but simply returned to the same screen stating, The hard disks file.......etc.

Anyone have any suggestion or is a right off? Not under a guarntee now.

Added to above, my husband has now turned it on and there's no power at all, in otherwords the machine isn't truning on at all, no red light or gree or blue for that matter, is it worth having it fixed or would it be cheaper to buy a new one.

Hey,

When you say no power, do you mean that you get no response at all or can you hear a noise coming from the PS3 (e.g. The fan whirring).

Also, have you checked the fuse and all.

Thanks,

Hey mate,

Do you know of anyone else with a PS3?

If so, you could try putting your drive in their PS3 and formatting it in there.

If not, perhaps you could try whiping the PS3's hard drive using a PC and then putting it back in the PS3 (as it could be some sort of corruption causing an issue with the PS3's restore function).

Thanks,

Thanks. The using a PC idea sounds good. I presume this involves connecting by USB? If it comes to it is it worth purchasing a new Hard Drive? Any help really appreiated.

Hey mate,

As far as I know, the PS3s contain a 2.5 inch SATA hard-drive.

This means that you can connect it to any PC with SATA ports (which most modern-day PCs have). If you have the model of your PC's motherboard, I can check it for you [you can get this from a dxdiag].

Here is a guide which show somebody changing their hard-drive with a new one (it will show you how to remove yours and replace it, it will also be useful if you decide to get a new Hard-Drive which is of a bigger size).

Upsize your PS3 hard drive - Home A/V - CNET Asia

Thanks,
