Hello everybody, I have an 80 gb PS3 connected to an hd tv at 1080i resolution. Bluray plays in hd just fine, but when I try to play hd games (such as call of duty 3) it will only show standard 480 resolution. I have gone into the display settings and made sure the resolution is set at 1080i and it is, but still, no hd gaming. It's driving me crazy. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Hi Jason,

COD3 has a native resolution of 720p. The PS3 at the moment do not upscale PS3 games. It plays them at their native resolution. If however your TV does not support the native resolution, it defaults back to 480p.

If you wanted to try (dunno if this will work) try unchecking every other resolution in the display settings then run the game.

Specify what kind of cable you are using. you might want to reset your PS3 by holding down the power button until you here two beeps I think that will set the display to maximum res allowed by the tv and reset to default settings. Also I have a friend who was gaming on a hd tv with a PS3 who was having similar problems, but his would skip back to 720p or 480 (I cant remember) when gaming on 1080i or 1080p because his tv couldn't keep up with the speed of the game (call of duty 3).
This sort of sounds like the problem you are having, unfortunately I dont know what tell you.

Thank's for the help guys. I have my PS3 connected with a component cable by the way. Jack Sparrow, you were right. My tv doesn't support 720p, so I'm just getting the 420p resolution. So, how do you know what the native resolution of a game is? Are there games with a 1080i native resolution?
