PS/2 adapter for keyboard, mouse stops working

My keyboard is USB & has been running fine on that connection. However, when I put the PS/2 adapter on it & plug it into the keyboard PS/2 port, the keyboard will work, but then the mouse stops working all together. I've tried rebooting, but that didn't work either. Any ideas?

is the port enabled in the bios

look in the bios and check if ps/2 is enabled
