Are you waiting until AVG loads and the icon shows in the taskbar?

if it is set to scan on boot,set it to low cpu priority

Nope, it's not doing anything except starting up when I boot, and yes, everything has loaded when I am trying to use programs. Note: I did say that it was unlikely AVG is causing the problem, but I can't think of anything else.

look in the msconfig/startup for common startup items on both comps,untick items 1 by 1,restarting each time and see if you can isolate it
