Program to monitor broadband speed wanted

I am looking for a Firefox extension or a program that runs in the sys tray or toolbar that tells me my up/download speeds. I am currently on a 8Mbps down and 128kbps up speed with a cap at 10 gigs download/upload total per month that then reverts to 64kbps after that. I exceeded the limit and was restricted to 64kbps and in my opinion there was an overall improvement in my speeds.

Cant answer for windows but as youre running Ubuntu then you are in luck.
You can use vnstat for monitoring both o/g and i/c bandwidth usage.
Other programs include kinternet (can be setup with ethernet) and if you want to see throughput in real time try gkrellm.
Im sure you will get some answers for windows. HTH
