Processor not overclocking itself

1280 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  joeten
Trying to help my girlfriend solve a problem with her laptop, but I can't seem to figure it out. The problem is that the CPU does not overclock itself when it's under load. The laptop is a asus N53JQ. The cores stay at 900mhz whether under load or not :normal: If I put the "balanced" power setting the CPU does overclock itself up to 2.9ghz which makes the computer run flawlessly but then it doesn't underclock itself leading to overheating and ridiculous power consumption.

Thank you for the info, joeten. I don't know how that helps with my problem though. To clarify the processor underclocks itself to 0.9ghz reduce power consumption but does not overclock itself under load. This leads to horrible performance...I can help this by turning off the power saving feature but then the cpu is running at 2.9ghz all the time making the laptop overheat.

Sorry if my first post was confusing.
