Thanks so does this mean that a given proc of p4 3.4g 478n socket lets say but with a different spec# will work on 478 socket boards such as the Asus p4c800deluxe-e and Msi 875p neo Fis2r. Should let's say 3 different procs p4 3.4g 478 sockets northwood and prescott with all diff spec#s work on a mobo such as the ones stated here? I'm having problems and I have to make sure if it is a proc or a mobo issue.

Yes it is possible for the CPU to work even if it has a different number.

The best thing would be to look at the CPU Support list for the two boards in question

and then check each CPU to see if it is listed on the support list.

Look on the specific Mobo's CPU compatibility list to determine what CPU's are compatible with the Mobo/Bios.
