Hi guys,

My Work Laptop = Packard Bell EasyNote TS13HR running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

My USB = Sandisk Cruzer Edge flash drive

The problem I have is that the Laptop never actually recognises the Cruzer Edge fully. It will recognise it in terms of displaying the Cruzer Edge in "Devices + Printers" but won't actually show it as an external device in "My Computer".

The only way I have found of fixing it is to go into "Devices + Printers" and double click Cruzer Edge > Hardware > Properties > Change Settings > Driver > Uninstall > OK

After that, I remove the Flash drive and then re-plug it and the Laptop will detect and automatically install the drivers. The Flash drive will then work perfectly, and upon removal I ALWAYS use the "Safely remove hardware". However, I get the same issue every single time I try and re-plug the Flash drive. I have to uninstall+reinstall every single time I want to use the device, which is obviously a pain.

I have searched for any driver updates and found none.

Any advice would be awesome,

Cheers people.

wow! i also had exact same problem, even went to a better configured pc at public library, & sure enough, it also did not load on their computers, so i knew for sure it was not my usb ports failing on me, it was the Cruzer. (Ridata Knife & PNY models failed similarly). well, got so frustrated, i threw them away & vowed never to depend on usb flash drives (except for hardware plug & play) again. if i do, i will make sure usb flash drive is MMC, SD, or other memory card compatability, so i can slide it out so m not dependent soley on usb feature. this really ticked me off, as i had important txt in4mation in them. oh well, lesson learned, SD all the way from this point on for me, as MMCs & SDs have less mechanics in them than USB FDs.

There are no drivers required for USB Mass Storage Drives. They are provided by the Windows OS.
Try the flash drives on another computer. With the drive plugged in, go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc right click the devmgmt icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any devices with yellow flags? Or under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Remove the Flash drive and restart the computer. When the computer comes back up, plug in the USB Flash drive to a different USB port, you should get the new hardware found and it should show in My Computer. If you still have problems, download the Chipset Driver (aids in USB support) from the PacTell driver site for your computer model Support Download
