Whenever I open a video file with either Windows Media Player or DIVX my computer gets slowed to a crawl. The movie doesn't play and even after I end the process my computer continues to be under a lot of stress. It takes me around 5 minutes to even shut the thing down. Any suggestions?

Computer specs:
AMD 64 3500+
1 gig RAM
6600 GT video card
80g HD

You need the right codecs in order to play those types of files.
k-lite codec pack is what you need. Do a search there may be a free version.

Not having the codec is the thing pretty much locking up my computer? When windows gives the message about not having the right codec my computer behaves normally.
