Earlier today I reinstalled WinXp on my dell desktop. It took me two tries in order to get the Win install to work properly. One I got the computer running, I updated all of the drivers, and the bio's from A05 to A09, with the downloads provided by Dell.com

I turn off the computer, went to the store, and now something is wrong.

It runs fine until it hits the WinXP Loading screen. It looks as if windows is loading, the blue progress bar is constantly moving, not hanging or anything like that. After about 15-20 minutes it moves to a black screen, another 2 or 3 minutes and my cursur pops up. I waited another 10 minutes and turned off the computer. At the moment I've been waiting 20 minutes for safe-mode to load.

The only thing I can think is that its my bios update because that was the last thing I changed before I ran into this problem.

Computer Details: Dell Dimension Desktop 4600c
NVidia GeForce4 MX440 with agp 8x
768mb ram
2.8 ghz processor
60 gb HD
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Home Edition

***Update***

Safe mode loaded to black screen with cursor and the Safe Mode words in the corners of the screen. I restarted and am going to try to repair windows.

What happened the first time you tried to install? When this started, was it the first time it had been rebooted since the intial load or had you restarted successfully before applying the BIOS update?
