Problem with usb port

I need help. When i plug an MP3 or a USB network connection, meanning, devices with software included, it doesn't start the instalation or even appear a new drive. A simple pen drive is recognized. Why does it happens?
Help, please.
( I have a ACER 5510 with Vista Home)
