Hello everyone !

I've just bought a new M2 SSD (Gammix S5) and installed it on my MB's second slot (Gigabte Z390). When I turned the system on, it went back off after a couple seconds with a not-too-loud-yet-concerning beep, then restarted by itself and booted successfully. Windows prompts me with the initialization procedure, I click "OK" and it says "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". Same when initializing it through the disk utility. Then, I realise one of my HDDs is not showing up anymore.

I tried to reboot. It did successfully without the beep. Yet, I still can't initialize the new SSD and no trace of the lost HDD. I then removed the new SSD, and all went back to normal. Clean boot, lost HDD is back.

I've tried googling my problem but it always gives me pages and pages of bot-written articles about the cyclic redundancy thing. I honestly got discouraged and thought I would ask real people for help.

Here are my questions :
  • Is the SSD DoA ?
  • Is my PSU (600W) too weak to handle one more M2 SSD ? (See whole config below)
  • Is the screw I use to hold it in place unappropriate ? (insulation wise maybe, i just used a random screw I had with the right size/thread.)
Can someone help me sort this out ? Thanks in advance :)

Whole config :
  • Gigabyte z390 gaming X CF
  • i7 9700K
  • 2x16Gb DDR4 3200 (HyperX Fury)
  • GTX 1070 (Gigabyte)
  • 1 x M2 SSD - 1 x SATA SSD - 2 x 3.5 5.4kRPM HDDs
  • 4 x Corsair iCue fans (140mm)
  • 600W PSU (BeQuiet)

Same problem when this new SSD is connected to another computer? If so, return the defective SSD for a refund or replacement.

Hey ! Thank you for your reply ! Unfortunately I don't have another computer to try it on. Sounds like DoA to you apparently. I'm thinking about unplugging my GPU to free up some watts and check if it's a PSU problem. Can't do it right now but will update the thread when I do.
