Hi all, here is the problem:

We have a 6 pc's p2p network.
It's a 100Mbs network with both 100mbs and 1000mbs nics, and 2 switches.
All these network cards work fine, except one.

It takes 15-20 secs for it(D-Link 100mbs) to open a network shared folder for first time. After that, communication with the folder goes normally. If i close the folder and later open it again, it goes fast and normal. This computer works the same way with all the network shared folders.

I suspected it's the card problem and replaced it with a new one (Allied Telesyn 1Gbs), but surprisingly there is no change in opening speed.

Then i tried to change the switch port for this computer - with no avail.

Finally i put the nic in another pci slot - as you could expect, no change.

I have no idea anymore, what could be the problem with opening the network folders, on just this machine?:sigh:

All machines (P4) are running XP pro + 1 adsl router (with dhcp).

Thanks in advance

I applied all the suggestions, nothing helps. :sigh:

I heard something about Master Browsers, maybe i should set/unset this option for the workstation?

Or, maybe, to install NetBEUI on this machine?

Perhaps to change Node Type ( i've seen something on the net, that for a computer in p2p netw NodeType should be changed from peer-to-peer to 'none' or something, to make things work better ???)

The only node type that is a problem is Peer. Since you're browsing at all, I would expect that you don't have that.

Please do this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

Sorry for the delay; to much work.

A few days ago, all of sudden, the thing has been fixed up by itself, for first time since the network has been established (5 months ago).

Now it opens all shared folders immediately .

That's interesting because the only thing that i changed in the network is (firstly) creating, then increasing the value of IRPStackSize on the file (&backup) server (machine, next to this one), to 14, 17, 21, and finally to 24.

I did that because there were difficulties with access to its external shared HD.

So, it seems pretty mysterious to me.

Is there some explanation of this phenomenon?

Anyway, here is ipconfig result:

p.s.
Hm, the only logical explanation is, the machine has been frightened of johnwill's ruthless solution.
