Hi

I have a linksys WRT54GS router. I've connected both PCs onto this through Eithernet cable.

MI want my pc to connect to the kids pc, but what is happening is the kids pc is connecting to mine but i can't connect to the kids pc.

I've tried pinging and it doesn't ping either, but it connects to the internet no problem.

I've type ipconfig /all and these are the results.

what happens if you go to start > run > \\ipaddressoftheotherpc
I can connect that way, the folder opens up(\\192.168.1.100)

I have also tried switiching the firewall off but same problem.

After I typed this I tried switching the firewall off and guess what now it's pinging the internet but not the other PC.

so it opens up properly if you use the IP address?

sounds like a DNS issue

if you're using DHCP from the router...check the network settings on each PC and make sure obtain DNS and IP address automatically is being used instead of static addresses

I've checked that and they are configured to obtain DNS and IP addresses automatically.

Failure to ping by IP address is almost ALWAYS a firewall issue. You need to look closer at the security programs installed on the system you can't ping.
